We are back on schedule. After our trip to New York (August 23-25) Belle was a little off schedule. Since we drove through the night and arrived at the hotel at 2:00 am and then two nights later did the return trip through the night, she decided that waking up at 2:00 am was a good idea. Basically we had to remind her that sleeping through the night was much better. Now I am trying to just lay her in her bed for nap time and bed time. For a while she fussed and wanted to be held, but now she just plays with herself in her crib – sometimes not making a peep. The other night she was awake for over an hour in her crib, not fussing, just talking a little to herself and her stuffed animal (her lovey) and watching the fisher price crib aquarium that we connected to the side of her crib. Her lovey is a small puppy that is just her size, it is not too big and she can move it around, snuggle with it and toss it to the side when she doesn't want it. (At 4 months, infants can have a small lovey with them in their crib, but no blankets yet. Obviously you have to watch your own kid to see how they do with toys, but Belle is just fine with it.) I figure as long as she is resting and not crying, I will let her fall asleep on her own. She has to learn how to sooth herself to sleep on her own without being dependent on rocking, feeding or something else. She still has her pacifier, so if she looses that, sometimes I will go into the nursery and put that back in her mouth for her. Overall we are very happy with her sleep routine. It doesn’t work every time, but usually we can just put her in her bed and eventually she will fall asleep, without any crying. She sleeps on her side, it is so cute. This is not a great photo of her sleeping on her side, I will try to get a better one after nap.
