On a whim we decided to head to Charlottesville for the day. We got up early, packed a picnic lunch and got on the road with the family and my cousin Emily who is visiting from Minnesota. We started in the downtown area for breakfast and then out to a vineyard for an even more impromptu polo match. Annabelle absolutely loved watching polo, its really incredible to see. We loved the wine delivery (via golf cart) and tastings in this beautiful setting surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Annabelle thought walking onto the field at half-time to push in the divots was a blast. She took it very seriously... when she wasn't dancing around.
We stopped at another vineyard and ended at Thomas Jefferson's Monticello where Quentin and I relaxed with a picnic snack on the lawn while everyone else went though the house tour. It was actually relaxing to just play with Quentin and watch him run around and enjoy the wide open space. When the tour was over, Annabelle got in on the action.
What a beautiful spot to have a picnic.
On our way home we stopped at the Bavarian Chef (a road-side staple on Hwy 29 recommended to us by some locals). Annabelle thought the ladies were dressed as princesses. She's grinning ear-to-ear to get a picture with them.
